Easy Clipless Pedals

easiest way to use toe clips?

I have no trouble getting into the first one since that is done from a stop, but what is the easiest way to get my foot hooked into the second clip without falling on my face since it obviously has to be done while pedaling? keepin mind these are toe clips that hook onto the exisiting pedals and not a clipless pedal unit.

Man, this is bringing back memories. lol

Just pedal.....push off with your clipped foot and pedal with both feet (duh) until you're moving and stablized. Then just coast while you look down and flip the other pedal up and over your toe. With practice it will become natural. If your toe straps are the easy-cinch type then pull on it and hammer away. If you can still find them, strap "buttons" are great. Depending on your bike and cranks, you may scuff the tip of the clip but you usually only need a few strokes to get moving. You can also point that toe downwards to keep it from scraping as often.

If your straps are hard to adjust quickly, then ditch them for a better pair. Or, try to do what other people mentioned above and use a pole or wall to support you while you get your second foot in. Hard to do at stoplights or in the country, though.

Be glad you aren't using those old early shoe cleats with your clips....those things were hard to get connected and suicide when you had to do a panic stop or took a spill. )
