I recently bought a tricycle tadpole - or should I get clipless road bike? Why? What is the difference?
I am currently using toe straps.
MTB shoes are really stiff like a pair of tennis shoes. The cleat is recessed into the sole and shoes are usually "Rocker" so it is easy to walk in The disadvantage is that the pedals with cleats use only 2 screws side by side pattern can be used. As noted above, the pedals are double-sided ATV (like Shimano SPD) or if the bone Pedal Crank Brothers egg beater, with four sides. They are made to be resistant to clogging with mud. There's a guy there pedal SPD uses the hold of one side and a platform on the other, just in case you want to do a couple laps around the neighborhood and will not play with shoes. Road Shoes are lighter and made to manage the tabs of all pedal systems - the 2 bolt SPD style look or 3 bolts. Shoes have little or no flex so you get better power transfer. The disadvantage is that you walk in balance on the wedge and heel. Most pedals like the look, Shimano Spd-SL, and reading speed using a shim to cover help protect the hold of excessive wear when walking and to help traction on slippery floors. Most Road Pedals are on one side (except for read speed, which are double-sided) and lighter. Road pedals are more susceptible to clogging with mud that the bike pedals. Look at where and what type of riding you'll do with how much walking, you could do. Decide on the pedals you want first, and then look for them shoes. Look at spending about $ 70 - $ 80 and more for shoes (sometimes you can find close-out cheaper). Plan to spend nearly 55 years and over for Spd Pedals, and for about $ 80 Look or SPD-SL pedals. Spd Cleats you about $ 20, looks with the hold covers about $ 25 (about $ 16 without covers) and about $ 20 - $ 25 for cleats SPD-SL. Most of your cleats speed reading will run about $ 45 - $ 50 because the connecting mechanism is on the cleats and not the pedals.
