Do you have or need to hold your cycling shoes?

To lock or not to shim that is the question

For years, cyclists focused on ways to maximize their power on their bikes and reduce their risk of injury. Different ways they tried to include change their bike set up, improving their fitness and in more extreme cases of wedging their feet on the pedals or cleats counter any abnormal biomechanics that can cause pain or reduce performance.

These methods can be very effective, but there are times they are not. Take the example of setting foot on the pedal, I try to correct a foot too flat in the shoe or cleat. Bearing in mind that 60% of the biomechanical problems that exist in the feet compensation for faulty biomechanics in the pelvis or hips, then you can see that is essential to ensure that the hips and pelvis are fully functional before the feet are addressed.

A "rotation" of the basin (which is where the pelvic bone gets stuck in an abnormal position) can go undetected for many years until the compensations starting to cause problems. Typically, a rotation of the basin is caused by unusual exercise or transportation, performing a repetitive movement abnormally or perhaps to compensate for another biomechanical issue elsewhere in the body. During rotation of the pelvis, the piriformis muscle on the outside of the hip is in spasm of protection. This spasm effectively prevents the joint from functioning correctly and so other areas have to compensate. If the problem is taken quite early treatment will help. If the problem is left for more than six weeks, the muscle will change its composition and become fibrous and be unable to function normally. In case of treatment theories help in the short term, but each time you start training, the problem recurs.

Body can compensate in a variety of means for rotating the pelvis causes unequal leg length, causing a variety of problem areas potential.

Common examples are that the foot can flatten to shorten the length of the long leg or other leg can increase the height of its vault lengthen the shorter leg. Alternatively, the knee of the longer leg can bend more to shorten it, or the knee of the shorter leg can bend less to lengthen it. In addition, the spine can bending side to allow more reach as shorter leg. These are just some of the many ways the body tries to compensate for a difference in leg length. Also keep in mind that the problems are worse in cycling than many other sports as you are fixed in a position determined by an external factor, unlike the farm where you are relatively free to compensate how you wish. All these compensations will however increase the load on structures that do more work. Typically they will lead to knee pain, back pain, leg or pain in the thigh and hip pain. In addition, they make it very difficult to put your bike properly, what do you know whether to set the seat / pedal relationship right leg over leg or shorter?

To address these issues, we must first return the muscle tone the pelvis (the piriformis muscle) to normal. In other words you have to do "anti-spasm" exercises for the muscles. Stretching or work flexibility that will not be cut. You must return the muscle to normal operation, not just stretching. Once the spasm is eradicated as much as possible, then you must do exercises to stabilize the pelvis. In other words, exercises that allow your muscles to control your pelvis and trunk without having to go into spasm. Part of this process is achieved by so-called "core stability exercises, but you must contact your physio exercises for the pelvic muscles plyometric you can do in the gym.

Once your pond in good condition, and if you continue to having problems with your troublesome body part, then you can get a qualified practitioner or a specialist to consider prescribing the corners.

So if someone tells you that the corners of your shoes can help with your knee, back or hip pain, you must make sure they check your biomechanics basin first.
