Shifting problem?
I was on my mtn bike today when I noticed that the rear derailleur was not working properly. When I upshift, nothing happens until I go through about three clicks, then it jumps 2 or 3 speeds, becomes more difficult click I'm progressing through the gears. The highest ratio is that I can achieve what would normally be the second highest. Once I reached this gear, the throttle will not "click" when I try to reach top gear (gear most w / pedal resistance). I looked at the rear derailleur and nothing seems bent. I use Shimano Deore shifters with XT rear deraillleur. The bike is only about 1 week. I adjusted the cable a little while there was very little game to begin. It moves a little better now (I think) but stilll becomes more difficult to move the gears and jump higher still a gear or two occasionally. Yes, I am pedaling and "upshift" I mean go into high gear with more resistance to the pedal.
1) If the bike has recently fallen on its side, it could very well be a bent derailleur hanger that is not really noticeable without the proper alignment tools to diagnose ... most stores have dropout alignment tools, 2) It seems that if you have a "low (high pinion) normal" or "rapid rise" of the derailleur. XT is available but is not Deore, if that is the case then the XT is not compatible with Deore shifters. An easy way to check is if the cable "pulls" to put up (some gear) gear then you have a low normal derailleur. 3) If you have a "high normal" derailleur alignment and abandonment is good then there are 2 other possibilities ... If the tape speed is 10 and the remotes are not compatible ... Deore is not available at 10. It could also mean that the gear lever could be 8 and you have a 9 speed rear. Just count the gears back and clicks on your controller. The other possibility is that the limit screw on the derailleur is not set correctly. I'd say you have a store where you purchased the bike check. If you bought the bike used or online, it may well be that the rear derailleur or shifters were simply disposed to sell the bike. This is more common than I care to think. EDIT: For those who do not read the questions completely ... It is the second round for this question. The applicant already adjusted the cables and some other stuff. The real index is that it looked to see if everything was folded, and it ignores the gears, and that may XT 9 and 10 speed Deore everything is 8 or 9 speed.
