Road bike position?

What is the best way to start setting up my position on a road bike? I have the correct size frame, I use Look Clipless Pedals and have all the parts except the stem. I am a pensioner, not as flexable as I used to be, height 180cm and inside leg 85cm, weight about 11S 3lbs.

go get fitted at a bike shop....

reasons behind it...

incorrect seat position or cleat position can cause problems with your knee (this happens a lot)

to have someone check your back position, making sure your not arching and correctly having a flat back (otherwise, that will be a problem in long rides)

those are some issues that can come.

but since you have the bike and don't have the stem, you can take it to the shop, and find one that sit you best. they will put you on a trainer and since you're not as flexible, they can put a higher angle stem, so you're not leaning down as much or too strtched forward where your arms are locked out (which hurts like hell after 10 minutes)....

any good bike shop should have many stems to play with and it shouldn't cost more than 40 dollars..
