Classic rock is a term used to describe vaguely album releases in the early 70's by artists who have become legendary and so "classic".

Most of these artists have been very original and is now affecting many groups in the coming generations to come. No matter what time you are born in almost any band that listening has been influenced by artists and groups of the 1970s. Moreover, even if you're in your teens and you think your group favorite was "totally original," chances are they have been influenced by a musician or a group of that time, even they are not consciously know.

The seventy were a great time because it was really a ground breaking time for music. Nothing has been copied and rehashed and each had its own sound. The 1970s represent the culmination and the expansion of sounds that have been experienced in the 1960s. Groups like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Free, Allman Brothers, Queen, Black Sabbath, Cream, David Bowie, the status quo are all examples of acts that made their debut in the 60s, but have found their sound and style in the 70s, and therefore gave rise to many other groups who then added their own flavor to these styles.

Lesser known bands such as Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash, Grand Funk Railroad, Scorpions (which has become pretty huge in the 80s), and Thin Lizzy is worthy of mention, but would not necessarily legends, while others acts such as Queen became absolutely huge and remain to this day.

It's the same thing with guitar hero. Almost all guitarists, regardless of age, heard or listened to Hendrix, Clapton or Jimmy Page, but there are other guitarists extremely talented and influential people who are less well known than should have a caption and status. Two examples are Richie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Michael Schenker of UFO. You will find some modern players such as Kirk Hammet and Dimebag Darrel have been heavily influenced by Michael Schenker, Schenker, but has not really reached "as God" the status of some of his contemporaries like Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton have.

I could go on for hours on classic rock and there are hundreds of excellent albums that are still available today, but a few songs and albums deserve a special mention for their prowess guitar and value your time for at least a quick listen. Here's a quick list of four lesser-known gems of classical musical genius who deserve a listen:
