Eight (8) tips for cycling safely in traffic

Cycling is one of the most enjoyable transportation - And may be safer if cyclists respect the rules of the road and other motorists on the road.

The following tips are suggestions to ensure bicycle safety - and all the other travelers on the road or on another vehicle or bicycle in a car.

1. Make that the motorist you're there - where the colors at all times and are equipped with front and rear lights on the bike after sunset and before sunrise or Weather bad.

2. Ride defensively and be predictable so that motorists know that you know what you do and you feel comfortable on the road with you. Be courteous and respectful of traffic rules and conditions at any location.

3. Do not weave in and out of spaces empty on the side of the road between parked cars. Others on the road can not see you and predict what you will do. Cycle in a row line parallel with the traffic and parked cars.

4. Use hand signals for turns and lane changes and stops. Use your left arm with a finger is for left turns and right arm with a finger pointing to the right turns. It helps to gain mutual respect between cyclists and motorists.

5. As for drivers, be aware of your surroundings as you ride your bike. Always be aware of other cars, children and animals through each street and residential areas.

6. When traffic is stop and go - you - the rider can go as fast as the vehicles in traffic. Do not weave in and out of vehicles in circulation. Ride the road and where traffic is stop and go. If you hug the curb, you are less visible and it is tempting for drivers to squeeze by.

7. Do not try to gain ground at red lights, passing a line of cars on your left. It is illegal and can cause injury if the first car made a right on red or if the oncoming traffic has a green arrow that allows them to make a left turn crossing in front of you and the vehicle stopped alongside of you. Wait until the red light and proceed with the same actions as a vehicle car.

8. Be aware of reflected sunlight in the early morning and late afternoon. Not only does it affect your clear vision of the road, but it prevents motorists too and they can not see you. If possible, change your route so you do not go directly into the sun.

In summary, always keep in mind, if a motorist CAN you not see - they can not avoid YOU! Be aware of your environment while still pedaling be ready to brake.
